Don’t Fall Foul of The Latest Google Algorithm Change
Well it is January so its time for another Google Algorithm change. This one was something that I think most of us saw coming but it is worth talking about. Basically they are going to start punishing sites with “too many ads above the fold” . They don’t tell you how many is too many, they don’t say what screen size we need to use to determine if we are going to fall foul of it.
Lucky enough I am not worried as I use wp-easy ads (link is at the bottom of the post) and that has so many options for placement that I know I can control my ads and keep out of trouble. Rather than trying to explain it all here I decided to do a video. I talk about adsense placement but also another plugin you can use to make your sites look better.
Magazine Style Plugin I mention in the video (it is actually 2 plugins, one for posts and one for pages), this is one of the must have plugins for any wordpress install in my opinion
Get Wpeasy ads for $17 instead of $27 using the button here
With all the updates that have been going on other the last few months this could well be the final nail in the coffin for a few adsense sites, don’t let this easy to resolve situation kill your site ranking.
Treat your site visitors with some respect and don’t blind them with ads is what they are after I think.

Hi Paul
I bought this when you first launched it
Oddly enough as I did not do adsense and started about 2 months agao I only used it for CB and other banner ads – Never thought of adsense until I saw your post.
By the way has this been updated as I am sure my version does not have the wrap feature – but I will have to check
Many thanks – sure is a great plugin though
Hi
I do sent out update emails, I know people miss them though, I will send you the latest now Hamant as I know you are on the list. Glad you like it.
Paul
Thanks for that reminder Paul. I have 1 static site that had the ads right in the middle of the page before any text. Unfortunatley I had to change that one manually, but WP easy ads are making it much easier on the blogs.
Take care
Wendy
Hi Wendy
Glad it helps, I am not sure I would be able to do it on a html site without thinking
Paul
Thanks for the heads up Paul I always look forward to your posts always full of insightful info thanks again will have to check it out to see how mine are fairing
Hi Paul,
Is it just me who finds it ironic that Google are placing more and more ads and other almost extraneous links above their primary search results?
Andy
I think you’re right Andy – and they also email me with tips about how to place more adsense ads on my site – then when I do they penalize the sites for too many ads!
Mick
I am pretty sure I heard that the two departments are not allowed to speak to each other. This is the only explanation I can think of for it all. Well the other theory is that they want to weed out the webmasters who are silly enough to trust google and put all those ads out there.
Paul
Hi Andy
Have you noticed how far down the SERPS the actual website info gets pushed on some searches? I saw a screenshot the other day where you could just see the 1st line of the webpage info, everything else was ads or navigation to other Google places.
Between that and the way they are pushing Google + on to every new Gmail and Youtube account I can see some trouble coming their way. But they won’t care as they have so much money coming in they can do anything they like.

Paul:
Does wp easy ads have update option within plugin. I am not sure what the current version is as I have not used this plugin in a while.
Thanks,
Rick
