I Bit off more than I could chew
A while ago there was some discussion on the wordpress goldmine forum about what would you do with $1k.
My theory was buy 20 domains build sites and promote them.
Theory is great, the reality is that 20 domains just proved too much. I got myself into such a mental state about it all that I effectively gave up.
Now some of those sites have made money in spite of me not doing much. I have done some work on some of them, but I cherry picked. I worked on the ones where I like the niche or where they were doing some money. This is not a very efficient way of working and it doesn’t bring the results you want.
Now my wife has started working with me a couple of hours a day she is asking me questions and putting procedures in place.
We now pick 4 sites a week and write them on a big whiteboard. We also have a spreadsheet with the url and the top 4 anchor text I want to build links for down the side.
www.yourdomain.com
Keyword 1
Keyword 2
Keyword 3
Keyword 4
Across the top we have a space for each of the link building places I mentioned some yesterday,

Postrunner , EZAL , BMR , IMA , Social Adr , Hubpages,
You can obviously add in any you want to. Each time we add something for that site we put a mark and then transfer the data to a master spread sheet at the end of the week. I am hoping to be able to see some correlation between this concentrated link building and increased income. EZAL and Build my rank (BMR) both spread out the links so they are not all going to be dumped out there at once.
I only count 1 article into ezal as 1 item even thought it will build 200-400 links over time.
By getting the sites down to just 4 at a time I am hoping that I can handle them, no one eats an airplane all at once you do it in small bites, I also think that having my wife keep track makes me more accountable. Apparently watching funny videos of animals with English voices and reading old 2000 ad comics does not count as work.
Find what works for you, some people look at 20 sites as 20 opportunities to make a million, I chose to look at them as a weight around my neck dragging me to work every day. Breaking out of negative thought patterns will do a lot for anyone’s success and hopefully now I am working on parts rather than the whole I will do better with these 20 sites.
As my wife also tells me “stop moaning, it could be worse, you could have to get dressed and shave to go to work. You know like a REAL job”
The mere thought of having to wake up and get dressed and shaved every day is enough to make me go build some more links.

Agreed I’m going through the same thing right now. Too many sites and keywords and not getting traction. Limiting myself to a few of the bigger keywords and focusing from there.
I am also trying to just work on what I hope will be the money words. It also makes sense to work on the sites that already make money.
If a site is already getting some google love then it is easier to add more pages and get those to rank.
