Make More Money By Not Selling
I have never really looked on this blog as a major income stream. I post what I want to share and hopefully most of it is useful, I do mention my products on here as I would be crazy not to. I was discussing a strange thing with my mate Mark Thompson and he said that he was hearing it mentioned more and more.
Anyway let me explain, Jan 22nd I did a post about the latest google algo change and how you could use my wpeasy ads plugin to avoid falling foul of it. I emailed my lists and I mentioned it on forums and I sold a few copies of the plugin (and one other that I mentioned )

Helped some people, made some money and that is a good days work in my mind. Most of my blog posts will have a short half life, the sales come in and then they are gone. I did one other change at the same time .
Over there in the right column you will see a box called “Other Peoples Products I Love” and I have listed 2 items that I do love.
Well the plugin I mention there is selling, not a load but enough to make me take notice. It won’t make me rich but it is all extra money on the bottom line.
So when I am not selling I am making almost as much as when I am selling, how does that make any sense?
My only thought is that I have started to make more posts here and on Facebook and that may be resulting in more sales, but traffic volume has not moved up at all. Maybe it is people still opening their email from weeks ago?
I am sure with some more sleuthing I could work it out, but I wonder if making money without any high octane sales pages could be the next big thing. Does this mean I can go back to my original sales pages, a headline, a video and a buy now button!
Maybe I will try that for the next product!
What are your thoughts? Would you prefer to see a video of the highlights and what the program can do for you and then just a big button, or do you read the sales pages?

Personally, I don’t like video sales pages. I much prefer to read, even if I just skim the sales letter for the highlights. I’ll watch a video if it’s something I’m really interested in, but that usually means I’ve read something somewhere else first.
I don’t need a bunch of fancy copywriting to pitch me though. I usually just skim for the facts, mainly from bullet points, so whether it’s a letter written by some award-winning copywriter or just a list that says “Here’s what this will do for you” makes no difference to me.
You said: “So when I am not selling I am making almost as much as when I am selling, how does that make any sense?”
I imagine it’s because a lot of the people landing on your site know you and trust you ahead of time. I doubt it makes much difference how you pitch something, since a lot of those people are probably already ready and willing to buy from you.
You may have a good point there John, I thought I had come across some wso super secret and you are saying it is just good old fashioned trust!
Who would of ever thought that matters in this day and age!
I have to say I’m in the same boat as John. I have the attention span of a gnat, and if there isn’t something there for me to quickly read and scan, I’ll generally move on without ever hitting the ‘Play’ button.
John and Mike are right. Most people can read twice as many ideas/insights in the time we watch one video. Only an occasional video is nice. An occasional changing video is even nicer for SEO.
But the real reason is we like you, Paul. Because you’re clever and ironic? Because you produce good WordPress plugins?
Yes.
But also because you use wonderful words like “snarkiness.”
Who can resist?
Cheers,
Mary
lol, Thanks Mary
Clever and Ironic..never been called those two words in the same line.
I am glad you like my posts and products and I shall keep on posting stuff that interests me and hopefully interests you as well
Paul
