PPC Do We Have Any Other Choice?
This is a quick one and is something I am still working my thoughts through. The image below was shared on Twitter today (sorry I deleted my stream and can not find it again).
The image shows nothing but ads above the fold, I know that hotels are one of the most competitive niches (travel is another one) and I am glad I do not compete in them. I think it is too easy to say that this type of page will never show in other niches though.
I do not love pay per click , but I wonder if it is something that we have to look at whether we want to or not. It does not have to be ppc , it can be banner ads on related sites, it can be Facebook ads it can be solo ads in newsletters. It could even be ads on the system that ezinearticles are starting. What it means to me is finding other ways to drive traffic in addition to organic listings.
Seo is not dead, I just see that we have to look for more ways to get the traffic we need. Sticking your head in the sand and just thinking SEO will always be enough is not realistic, well not where Google is concerned.
Are you already adding ppc/facebook ads/banners into the mix of your marketing? If you are and want to share what works that would be much appreciated
p.s I just saw this report
So maybe an alternative to Adwords that will actually drive some traffic?

I have resisted PPC, but I am always felt that it was a logical, predictive way to drive traffic.
One of the things that scares people with PPC (me included) is just how easily you can lose money. Sure you can make big money and once you find the sweet spot you can have “money on demand” with “laser targeted traffic” but you need to know not just how to write an ad but what margins you are getting on your site.
If you are selling an item from Amazon and it only gets $1 a sale I doubt it is worth looking at ppc, if you are selling a membership which pays $10+ every month then it probably is worth it.
If you are a data hound (as I know you are David) then PPC would seem like a natural way to increase traffic. Of course ppc is really not the only way to get paid traffic but it is the best known.

Paul, Yes Yes and Yes
with PPC be prepare to loose some money to gather some data. You need to get your EPC (earnings per click).
-If you are promoting Amazon with PPC make sure your cost per click is not more than $0.05. go to your amazon account and calculate your EPC then you would know how much you can afford to bid.
-if you do info products you may have to dump some money to gather the data needed but once you have that it is all good and campaigns start to turn around.
Cheers for dropping by Rob
The losing money to get data is the thing that puts most people off.
Good tip on Amazon there
